Helen O’Grady Drama Academies Across The Globe.

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy is the only
organisation of its kind in the UK and had its origins in
Australia many years ago.

In 1979, Helen O’Grady, a trained teacher, drama teacher and actress, hired a hall in a Perth suburb and commenced after school drama classes for children. Her aims were to provide a self-development through drama programme for
children, to encourage:

  • Enthusiasm, energy and a positive approach to life
  • Ongoing confidence
  • Self esteem
  • Skill in verbal communication
  • Effective social interaction

Why our parents and students love what we do

      Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How often do class sessions occur?

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academies throughout the U.K. offer three (3) terms each year, coinciding with local school term dates.

Can we enrol during an existing term?

Yes! You can enrol any time during one of the twelve week sessions. New children are always welcome!

What items do our children need in order to attend?

Nothing! There’s no need for books, paper, props or other materials. We provide what they need.

Can my child try a class before enrolling?

We offer a free trial for all new students.

Can I watch a class before enrolling my child?

Participating in a drama lesson is very different from watching. We encourage all students to become actively involved in the lesson to get a real flavour of the experience. Parents leave the students as soon as possible and are invited to watch at our Parents Days, and our annual Emd of Year productions.

What should we do if my child is unable to attend a class one week?

Notify the Academy Principal of any absences from class, giving as much notice as possible. Your child will benefit much more if they attend all weekly classes scheduled for the term

My child is confident at home but quite shy at school. Will drama help?

Definitely! Our classes are designed to increase confidence and self-esteem. Parents and teachers comment on how much more confident the students have become after attending our classes for a term or more. Our teachers are very supportive. They encourage each student to make new friends in a safe and fun environment.

Does my child need any past experience in drama?

Our classes are suitable for children of all abilities and no past experience is necessary.
